Marthaluz is a graduate of Western Carolina University's School of Stage & Screen, where she received a BFA in Musical Theatre and a minor in Dance. She dedicated her time in the smoky mountains of NC to shaping her craft through participation in MainStage productions involving musicals, plays, films, readings, and new works.
Thanks to the influence of Julia Cameron’s famous guidebook The Artist’s Way, Marthaluz recently completed her 500-hour yoga certification. She is passionate about the practices of meditation and yoga, as well as bouldering, hiking, playing soccer (defensive midfielder), binging Disney classics, and hitting up salsa on the dance floor!
Marthaluz is currently NYC-based.
Marthaluz Velez was raised a proud Spanish-speaking Latina by her Colombian immigrant parents. After spending several years of her early childhood in gorgeous Medellin, Colombia (famously known as "la ciudad de la eterna primavera," or "the city of eternal spring"),
Marthaluz moved to Norwalk, CT where she learned English
at age six.
Marthaluz quickly discovered an outlet in theatre, where she gained a platform to express storytelling despite the odds of language communication barriers- nothing like a good challenge to ignite a flame! And so the passion intensified, and our plot thickens.
